Returning Students will be sent links to register for the 2025-26 school year through email starting in April.  Links will be sent according to attendance and release time. Please look out for the email from Cityspan.

EFFECTIVE FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR, new applications to the ASES program will be centrally managed by the District Office, Before/After School Department through a single application and interest list.  Follow this link to add your student to the interest list.  The interest link will be open April 1, 2025 to May 9, 2025.  Students on the interest list will be offered a spot in ASES according to District priority.

First priority shall go to pupils who are identified by the program as homeless youth, as defined by the federal McKinney-Vento homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. Sec. 11434a), at the time that they apply for enrollment or at any time during the school year, and to pupils who are identified by the program as being in foster care.

Second priority for enrollment will be granted to students who are eligible for Free or Reduced Price Meals (FRPM).

Third priority will be given to students who attend the program daily, for the full range of program hours. The number of days attended per week is monitored throughout the school year. Students that utilize the full range of program hours (i.e. 1.5 hours before school and/or 3 hours after school) will be given greater priority over students that do not. If there is a wait list of students, they are added to the program as current students who do not meet prioritized attendance requirements are dropped.

Additional locally-determined, site-based priorities (e.g. single parent household, active duty military, targeted academic intervention, etc.) may also be considered when enrolling students in the ASES program in order to meet the unique needs of students in each middle school community."

ACTIVITIES:

Sports.  All ASES Sports are Coed. The sports program does not include any “cuts.”  Each season typically runs for six weeks. Practices are held M-Th 2:45-4:00.  We ask students to attend at least 75% of the practices to participate in the District events.

All students have a daily homework room in which they can work on their homework.  The library is open until 5 if they need more time to finish their homework.  Our goal is to have students go home with their homework completed without sacrificing their involvement in extracurricular activities.

Students who stay on campus after 2:45 must be involved in one of the scheduled activities or with a teacher or staff member.  Students may not leave campus and then return unless accompanied by a parent/guardian.

What does your child’s time at the after-school program look like?
  • The dismissal bell for school rings at 2:45.  Students have 5 minutes to get to one of the activities.  Students may not loiter around campus.
  • Homework hour is 2:45-3:30.
  • Snack Time is 3:30-3:40 A free, nutritious snack is served during this time.
  • The second period of activities is 3:45-4:25
  • The third period of activities is 4:30-5:10.
  • What can parents do to help us be successful?
  • Report to Room 122 to check out your child.  The staff member at the gate will radio for your child.  You are always welcome to enter the campus to join your child or see what activity they have been doing.
  • Please remind your child that scanning in and out is required every day. This is how we track attendance and it is vital that the most accurate attendance data is maintained.
  • If someone other than yourself or one of the people you designated on the registration form will be picking up your child, please send in a signed note with the specific information.  Your child gives it to a staff member.  Email is also acceptable.
  • Know your child’s friends!  Sometimes a student does not come to our program but goes home after school with a friend and forgets to inform their parent.  If you know the name(s) of their friend(s), we may be able to help you locate your child.
  • If possible, send in an extra snack with your child.  At this age, food is always on their mind!  It seems like they just ate, are eating, or are thinking about what they will eat next!
