Meadowbrook Dress Policies

Dressing for Success

At MBMS, students must dress in a manner that is safe, does not interfere with or distract from the learning process, and is appropriate for school, this includes, but is not limited to:
 
  • Clothing, jewelry, book covers, backpacks, or binders that contain sexual connotations, or mention tobacco, alcohol, drugs, profanity, obscenity, weapons, violence, or gangs are not permitted.

    a. Contains crude, vulgar, profane, or sexually suggestive words or symbols. 
    b. Promotes the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or other illegal activities. 
    c. Advocates racial, ethnic, or religious prejudice, or contains disparaging language or images that creates a hostile or intimidating environment based on any protected class or marginalized groups.  
    d. Portrays violence or includes language or images promoting violence. 
    e. Could be considered dangerous or could be used as a weapon. 
 
  • Footwear must be worn at all times. Shoes must be closed toed for PE.
 
  • Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments. See-through tops are prohibited. 
    The dress code shall be modified as appropriate to accommodate a student’s religious or cultural observance, health condition, or other circumstance deemed necessary by the principal or designee. 
    No grade of a student participating in a physical education class shall be adversely affected if the student does not wear standardized physical education apparel because of circumstances beyond the student's control.  (Education Code 49066)
 
  • Sunglasses and hoods are permitted but must be taken off indoors, unless given staff permission.


Consequences for dress code violations

Office will issue an loaner article of clothing and hold the non-compliant article until a parent retrieves it from the Assistant Principal’s office.

If a student receives three infractions for violating the dress code, they will serve after-school detention for every subsequent violation.  

The administration retains the sole discretion to make the final determination whether clothing, jewelry and accessories and/or appearance meet acceptable standards
